Tournament hours: Friday: 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. (break in-between) and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The 7th Annual Brad Rich Invitational Wheelchair Tournament, presented by the Warrior Foundation Freedom Station, returns to San Diego where nine wheelchair basketball teams from across the nation compete in a fast-paced and athletic three-day tournament has moved to the University of San Diego (USD) Recreational Sports Center 102, 5998 Alcala Park Way, San Diego, CA 92110 on February 2-4, 2024.
The Brad Rich Invitational tournament moved to a new location due to the City of San Diego using the Balboa Municipal Gym as a public shelter for displaced residents due to the potential rainstorms during the next week.
The veteran-based San Diego Wolfpack Wheelchair Basketball Team sponsored by the Warrior Foundation Freedom Station, and host team, along with nine other Wheelchair Basketball Teams will compete in the tournament.
“We are honored to sponsor and support the Wolfpack Wheelchair Basketball Team and host the Brad Rich Invitational for the seventh year,” said Sandy Lehmkuhler, CEO / Founder, Warrior Foundation Freedom Station. “This tournament has grown into one of the signature events on the National Wheelchair Basketball Association tour and the last and pivotal regular-season tournament before rankings for Nationals begin.”
The tournament began in 2013 and was named the Brad Rich Invitational in memory of Staff Sergeant Brad Rich a former member of the San Diego Wolfpack who passed away from Cancer. The annual tournament quickly became one the premier wheelchair basketball tournaments in the United States attracting teams from throughout the nation. In 2024, the tournament is “officially” in its seventh year of play because of the tournament cancellation in 2021 due to the pandemic.
The teams participating in the 2024 Brad Rich Invitational Wheelchair Basketball Tournament include: San Diego Wolfpack, Dallas Wheelchair Mavericks, Golden State Road Warriors, Mary Free Bed Pacers, Memorial Rehab Sharks, Rancho Halos, Seattle Sonics, Utah Wheelin’ Jazz, L.A. Hotwheels and University of Arizona Wildcats.
