Injured warriors suffering from post-traumatic stress, traumatic brain injuries, amputations, or other physical conditions can have difficulty coping, especially when transitioning from the military to civilian life. The WFFS Cycling Team is an adaptive sports program that provides a therapeutic outlet and the all-important camaraderie that warriors experience in the military. The WFFS Cycling Team currently has 17 members representing the Army, Navy and Marine Corps. The team competes in dozens of road races and triathlons nationwide each year.

“Most of the WFFS Cycling Team members suffer from post-traumatic stress, traumatic brain injuries and other physical issues. They also have had a hard time adjusting to civilian life once they leave the service and are always looking for that camaraderie they had in the military. Being part of the WFFS Cycling Team has given us back that sense of teamwork and togetherness and so much more. It’s been such a healthy outlet that does wonders for the mind, body and soul. When we get on our bikes, everything goes away – it’s just us, the bike, and the open road. Participating in a structured sport, and having the love and support of the Warrior Foundation Freedom Station family, has reduced our isolation, anxiety and depression, and given us back a sense of purpose and drive.”
