The Warrior Foundation-Freedom Station II: The Home of the Brave

the courtyard area of Freedom Station II in San Diego

Over 200,000 active duty military personnel and their families reside in San Diego, in addition to the quarter of a million veterans who call our diverse city home. These warrior families comprise approximately 15% of our total population , and also help make us one of the largest military communities in the entire world! Unfortunately, an ever-growing percentage of warriors return home with serious and/or traumatic injuries to their minds and bodies. The rate of medically retired warriors living among continues to rise as well.

Seven years after we unveiled the original Warrior Foundation-Freedom Station, the need to expand our revolutionary concept is greater than ever. To satisfy this need, we recently purchased a second housing facility in San Diego, which we proudly call The Warrior Foundation-Freedom Station II…. a name serving as both a nod to its sister property, and to the continuing mission of helping San Diego’s warriors successfully transition from military service to civilian life.

Transitional Housing at Freedom Station San Diego II

Flag raising at Freedom Station in San Diego

Located in the South Park neighborhood, Freedom Station San Diego II is a nine unit veterans transitional housing complex. It features eight one-bedroom, one-bathroom cottages that are approximately 475 square feet and an additional 1,000 square-foot, two-bedroom unit. Like Freedom Station I, we strategically chose this location to facilitate quick and easy access to Naval Medical Center San Diego, one of the nation’s largest military hospitals and leading centers for amputee care.

By living in veterans transitional housing at Freedom Station II, our warriors continue to receive medical treatment while preparing for the new challenges they will face in the civilian world.

Both Freedom Station San Diego I and II fill the much needed local void for a healthy, supportive and just as importantly, multi care-coordinated environment injured and disabled servicemen and women often lack as they return to life outside of military structure. In order to continue accomplishing our mission though, we rely on your help….
